Job Description


McFarland Consulting are specialist civil/structural engineers. Our engineers operate both on site and in the office working on a wide variety of buildings and structures throughout Ireland and the UK.

We have fantastic opportunities for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who want to start a career in civil engineering with the possibility of becoming a specialist in forensic engineering after sufficient training and experience.

Some of the tasks that you will be involved with include:

  • Assist engineers on site with detailed inspections, taking notes, dimensions and photographs

  • Operate specialist testing equipment to determine the condition of reinforced concrete and steel structures (full training provided)

  • Use tools on site to extract material samples such as drills, breakers and coring rigs

  • Be willing to be trained on working in demanding scenarios such as at height on MEWPs and within confined spaces such as tanks and tunnels etc

  • Collate data from site investigations and process material samples for onward laboratory analysis

  • Assist with report writing on results from investigations

  • Assist with site specific Method Statements and Risk Assessments

  • Assist with company Integrated Management System (third party accredited Quality, Environmental and H&S systems)

Description

There is a major demand for Civil Engineering Skills.  Civil Engineers design the infrastructure that we use everyday.

This includes:

  • Building Roads and Bridges

  • Creating Buildings

  • Ensuring there is a supply of clean water

  • Designing Gas, Electricity and Energy Networks

Delivery Hours : Approximately 9 hours/week in college

Modules

This course will provide you with the skills you need to start working in the Civil Engineering Industry. You will undertake the Pearson Level 3 National Diploma in Civil Engineering.  

The mandatory units are:

Description

Civil Engineers keep our towns and cities running smoothly by engineering the infrastructure we use in our everyday lives including roads, bridges, water supplies and buildings.  They design and install the networks that supply energy such as gas and electricity, along with communications to our homes and public buildings.

This qualification is designed for learners wishing to gain an apprenticeship within the Civil Engineering industry.  You will gain the skills and knowledge to carry out job roles and responsibilities associated with the role of a Civil Engineer working in the built environment sector.  

Apprentices must be fully employed with a civil engineering employer from commencement of the course.  They receive no training allowance from the College but are paid by their employer.  No fees are associated with this programme.

Onus is on applicants to secure employment in addition to meeting the entry criteria for the apprenticeship programme.

This apprenticeship programme also maps directly to Professional EngTech Accreditation through Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

Year 1 & 2: College 1 day per week (extended day) and with employer 4 days per week.
