Job Description

  • Assist the Maintenance Fitter to ensure all machinery & hand tools are H & S compliant.

  • Assist the Maintenance Fitter in undertaking planned preventative maintenance procedures and update PPM records for all machines in line with Quality Policy.

  • Assist in the manufacture of replacement parts where possible.

  • Trouble-shooting & fault finding for machinery

  • Liaise with external service engineers

  • Comply with all HSEQ policies and procedures

  • Other duties as may be reasonably required commensurate with the jobholder’s level in the company.

  • Discharge your duties in line with Spanwall Facades core values.

How to read and take engineering instructions in order to carryout engineering activities including the following

Fitting

Produce components to specification using such things as

  • measuring and marking

  • sawing

  • filing

  • drilling

  • threading

  • power operated machines

Plate work

  • Produce plate work components and assemblies using the following processes:

  • shearing and punching

  • folding

  • oxy-acetylene and plasma cutting

Welding, mechanical fastenersHydraulics and Pneumatics

  • Understanding the use of Fluid Power within Engineering

  • Design circuits to suit the operation of engineering scenarios

Programmable and logical controllers (PLC’s)Wire and test PLCs and learn how to:

  • Use software to program Siemens PLCs

  • Control electro pneumatic circuits and motors

  • Use relay control and a range of sensors

Computer Aided Design

  • Understanding 3D design of products which apply to engineering and manufacturing sectors

  • Essential Skills and Broader transferable skills in preparation and to support working in an engineering environment.

Description

This course aims to develop the practical skills and knowledge which are essential for working in the engineering industry.  Successful completion will lead to the award of a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Engineering and an ETA Level 2 NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations.

Modules

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Working in Engineering

  • Principles of Engineering Technology

  • Principles of Manufacturing Technology

  • Machine Components using Milling Techniques (Lisburn only)

  • Machine Components using Turning Techniques

  • Fabricating Sheet Metalwork

  • Welding by MIG Process (Bangor & Downpatrick only)  

You will also study Essential Skills to Level 2 in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT unless exempt through holding GCSE passes at Grade C or above in Mathematics, English and ICT.

As a student you will spend a minimum of one day/week in College and 4 days/week with your employer
