Working for us

The positions will be based around apprenticeship requirements, per your course, paid and based in Belfast initially, although there will be opportunities to gain experience from company offices such as New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Auckland and London for those who have successfully completed their apprenticeship.

Person Specification


Essential Criteria

• Strong research, writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and changeable working environment.
• Customer service experience (comfortable working with senior management and business owners).
• Exceptional organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
• Desire to travel and see the world.
• Ability to work independently and manage your own projects in a professional manner.
• Solid competency in the following: Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Candidates must successfully secure a position at the relevant apprenticeship training provider

Desirable Criteria

• Previous start-up, technology or business experience.
• A passion for start-ups, innovation and financial technology.
• Strong interpersonal skills with client facing experience.
• Project management skills and proven ability to manage own workload.

Description

An exciting ICT Apprenticeship programme has been developed to provide young people with the skills and experience required to take up opportunities in the ICT sector. The programme has been inspired and designed by a number of Northern Ireland’s top ICT companies, in partnership with the Department for the Economy, in support of this important and growing sector. This course will cover units in the following areas; software design fundamentals, software development fundamentals, software testing, principles of ICT systems security and project management.

  • Internet of Things & Mobile Development

It is predicted that there will be a shortfall of 10,000 skilled IT workers in Northern Ireland by 2026. Globally, Cyber Security is one of the fastest growing areas in IT with a predicted global shortfall of 3.5 million skilled cyber security professionals by 2021. Software development is one of the leading areas of IT in Northern Ireland and there is a predicted growth in the areas of Cloud & Application development as well as Data Analytics.

Our courses are designed to help you develop your Cyber Security & Networking skills and Software, Cloud & Application Development and Data Analytics skills in a meaningful and vocational way
and give you the skills to develop your chosen career.

Modules

Year 1:

  • 5 week bootcamp in Pearson IT Specialist Certification in Software Development

  • Fundamentals of IT

  • Cyber Security

  • Web Design & Prototyping

  • Global Information

  • Pearson IT Specialist Certification in HTML5 Development

  • Pearson IT Specialist Certification in Cybersecurity

  • BTEC Level 3 NVQ Units (agreed with assessor)

Year 2:

  • Pearson IT Specialist Certification in Java

  • Pearson IT Specialist Certification in Databases

  • Project based learning incorporating Product Development, Application Design, and Internet of Everything Units - assignment based

  • BTEC Level 3 NVQ Units (agreed with assessor)

Assessor Based Units:

Apprentices will choose four of the following units depending on their job role and responsibilities. These will be agreed with their line manager/mentor and assigned assessor.

  • Data analysis and design

  • Project management

  • Business computing

  • Systems analysis and design

  • Social media and digital marketing

  • Software engineering for business

  • Big Data analytics

  • Developing a Smarter Planet

Eligibility

16+ fully funded

Entry Criteria

5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above including Maths and English.
Must be employed in an IT role.

Specific requirements of the programme:

  • Each apprentice either is a new employee or is taking on a new job role, with an existing employer, commensurate to the apprenticeship being pursued.

  • An appropriate Apprenticeship Agreement is in place with the employer.
