Toolmaking Apprentice, we are looking for an apprentice who is keen, and committed to join our Toolmaking department. Reporting to the Lead Toolmaking Engineer the post holder will undertake training internally and at external training providers in order to attain the necessary skills to maintain, repair and manufacture new plastic injection mould tools to a very high standard. This involves all aspects of toolmaking from design interpretation to final mould sampling and includes the following:
Accurately reading and interpreting technical engineering drawings
Use precision measuring instruments like micrometers, gauges etc. to check the dimensions.
Operate all Standard Toolroom machinery including milling, drilling, lathe and spark erosion machines
Setting up and running CNC vertical milling, lathe and wire eroding machines
Final grinding and polishing of tooling components after hardening
Fitting and final assembly of mould tools
Use of material handling, lifting and inspection equipment.
Maintenance of tools as per schedule or in event of breakdown
Tooling strip down and diagnosis for repair
Complete tool reports and ordering of spare parts

Entry Criteria
You must:
Have attained the minimum school leaving age of 16
Be employed or be about to take up permanent paid employment with a Northern Ireland-based company and be contracted to work a minimum of 21 hours per week (including day release/off- the-job training) with one employer
Have the potential to successfully complete all the requirements of the appropriate Level 2 Apprenticeship Framework
Meet any health requirements (eg colour vision) specific to the occupation of their choice
Achieved any necessary entry academic qualifications (eg GCSE) determined by the relevant sector for the apprenticeship and approved by the Department for the Economy
Pass any entry tests specified by the relevant sector/employer and approved by the Department for the Economy.
Attend an information session.
