Premier Electrics have an exciting opportunity to join our Apprenticeship programme.
This role will be challenging and will give the successful applicant a chance to develop their own career within an award winning company in the commercial construction sector. The successful candidate will be given full training and support to enable them to gain a recognised qualification as an electrician, and will be required to do all training required by the college. The training contract will commence in September 2024.

Description

This qualification is designed for learners wishing to gain an apprenticeship within the Electrotechnical industry. You will gain the skills and knowledge to carry out job roles and responsibilities associated with the installation and maintenance of Electrotechnical systems. On successful completion learners will have achieved the industry desired level of competence required to carry out the specific roles.
Year 1 : College 2 days per week and with employer 3 days
Year 2 : College 1 day per week and with employer 4 days
Year 3 & 4: College 1 day per month, employed full-time
Apprentices are fully employed with an electrical employer from day 1.
Apprentices receive no training allowance from the college but receive a wage from their employer.

Electrician
The main duties of an electrician are installing, maintaining and repairing electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures. Diagnosing malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Repair or replace wiring, equipment and fixtures using hand and power tools.
Electrical Engineer
The responsibility of an Electrical engineer is that they are mainly involved in designing, developing and maintaining broad range of electrical systems or components by focusing on safety, economy, reliability, sustainability and quality. They are the one to design and manufacture electrical equipment for sectors like manufacturing, transportation, building industry, production and distribution of electricity. They primarily design, employ and enhance electrical products for any purposes.

Entry Criteria
You must be aged 16 – 24 years of age (currently under review by the Department for the Economy).
You must have a total of 16 points, derived from all GCSE results, inclusive of a minimum of two GCSE Grade C qualifications in English and Maths or Essential Skills Level 2 in Numeracy/Application of Number and Communication/Literacy.

You must meet all necessary health requirements, have no colour vision defects, be physically fit, and be able to work at heights in confined spaces. Verification of health requirements must be obtained from your optician. Your optician will be asked to sign, date and apply the practice/surgery stamp to your verification. The vision verification form can be downloaded from our Apprenticeship page.
You must attend an information session.
In addition if you are an existing employee you must: Be in permanent remunerative employment with a Northern Ireland-based company from day one of the apprenticeship; be contracted to work a minimum of 21 hours per week (including day release/off-the-job training) with one employer; and meet all the other eligibility criteria as set out above.
